The leadership requirements in the ISO 9001:2015 standard are not new. ISO 9001 has always had the leadership importance of top management as one of the seven quality management principles that form the basis of the standard. Without ongoing management support of the Quality Management System, you will likely run into problems.
An important distinction made by this section now broadens the idea of a “business”, to virtually any type of organisation that wishes to use ISO 9001 as its quality management system. Leadership must demonstrate their commitment to customer focus, particularly by fully understanding and monitoring customer requirements and satisfaction.
